The spectrum colored infinity sign is a common symbol of the International Autistic Community. This community began to form back in the 1990's, with the Internet as one of it's primary mechanisms of common communication. The variety of communication methods, durations and tools, enabled autistic people, with different communication styles, to communicate.
Autism, unlike it's popular-knowledge stereotype, is a diversity that begins with a different (from general population) neurological system, including brain structure that can manifest in a large variety of ways and effects all aspects of life - from a different way of thinking, a different sensory system, to a different communication styles and a different world-view and conception.
